RethinkX is seeking a Sector Research Analyst for an initial 6-month period, with the potential for extension. The immediate priority is to assist on the forthcoming sector report, Rethinking Agriculture 2020-2030, which we aim to publish in 2018. Additionally, involvement in other RethinkX research projects toward the end of the initial period is likely.

RethinkX is an independent and not-for-profit think tank, founded in 2016, that analyzes the speed and scale of technology and business innovation disruptions and their broader economic, social and environmental implications across society. We produce impartial, data-driven analyses that identify pivotal choices facing investors, businesses, policymakers, and civic leaders.

The role

The successful applicant will work in a team that includes a co-founder of RethinkX, a Senior Research Analyst, and sector experts. The work will involve secondary research, analysis, synthesis, and modeling, on:

  • The current inputs, outputs and economics of conventional food production and consumption in the US and globally;

  • The path of potential for a range of new ‘alternative proteins’ (e.g. plant-based meats, fish, and milk, cell-cultured meats), including cost analyses and projections for the speed and extent of adoption by consumers;

  • Work on other aspects of food disruptions, including vertical/indoor farming, recirculating aquaculture systems, and advances in automation within field crop agriculture;

  • Framing your research in readable and non-technical language for use in a report.

Your Skills/Experience

  • Excellent research and analysis skills (with a background in Economics, Market and/or Investment Analysis)

  • Excellent writing and communications skills

  • Organized and meticulous in nature

  • Strong collaborative skills

  • Flexible and proactive approach to working

  • A broad understanding of technology and ideally research experience on the food/agriculture sector. Candidates with research experience for one of the following sectors will also be considered: Finance, Healthcare, Energy, Transportation

  • An ability to challenge traditional mainstream approaches to “linear” analyses, assumptions and business models

  • Postgraduate degree desirable, minimum of a bachelor’s degree or educational equivalent.
