HOTs like GLP1s may seem completely disconnected from the environment and related issues, but the environmental benefits of widespread HOT adoption flow from the fact that HOT users fundamentally eat less food, and food production has an enormous ecological footprint.

Agriculture accounts for approximately 70% of global freshwater withdrawals, roughly 10–12% of global greenhouse gas emissions, about 50% of habitable land use, and is the leading driver of biodiversity loss, topsoil depletion, and water pollution in most of the world. Even modest reductions in overall food production translate into meaningful real-world environmental benefits.

The categories most affected by GLP-1 adoption, like junk food, sugary beverages, alcohol, and fast food, are disproportionately derived from corn (especially for high-fructose corn syrup and animal feed), sugar beets and sugar cane, and commodity grains. Reduced production of these crops would free some of the most heavily irrigated, fertilizer-intensive, and pesticide-dependent agricultural land in the US and globally.

Greenhouse gas emissions would decline from reduced agricultural production (including nitrous oxide from synthetic fertilizers and methane from animal agriculture and food waste). Freshwater withdrawals would decline as irrigation demand falls, offering meaningful relief to overexploited aquifers. Pesticide and fertilizer runoff would decline, reducing the nutrient loading that creates hypoxic marine dead zones (like the one in the Gulf of Mexico, fed by Mississippi River agricultural runoff). And land freed from cultivation and animal grazing creates extraordinary opportunities for conservation, restoration, reforestation, and rewilding. Each of which is associated benefits for carbon sequestration, biodiversity, and ecosystem services.

### **Explore the evidence...**

- The environmental benefits of widespread HOT adoption flow from the fundamental fact that HOT users eat less.

- If all 107 million obese Americans reduced their calorie intake by 500 calories per day through HOT adoption, the resulting reduction in food production would free over 4.5 million acres of cropland — an area nearly the size of New Hampshire. And that is just the obese population!

- The environmental benefits of HOTs extend beyond agriculture into transportation. When tens of millions of people lose significant weight, airlines (and all forms of transportation for that matter) carry less weight across billions of passenger miles and save tens of millions of gallons of fuel, hundreds of millions of dollars, and hundreds of thousands of metric tons of CO2 annually.

- The HOT disruption does not arrive in isolation. It is one of several simultaneous technology-driven disruptions that together have the potential to dramatically reduce humanity's ecological footprint. Understanding HOTs as part of this broader transformation is essential for anyone thinking seriously about the environmental future.

### **Witness the transformation**

We are entering a new era of healthcare based on a categorically different kind of medicine whose purpose is not just to save us from illness, but to help us be the best version of ourselves.

The next generation of HOTs will trigger a multi-trillion-dollar global disruption, affecting dozens of industries across multiple sectors, driving a radical global improvement in health and wellness encompassing at least 1 billion people worldwide before 2040.

Optimizing well with advanced HOTs will soon become as important as eating well with nutritious foods. Nations, industries, and individuals that recognize this early and act decisively will be best positioned to capture the extraordinary benefits of this transformation.
